Our research group is interested in

(1) Designing new nanoengineered membrane materials

(2) Characterizing nanostructures

(3) Understanding the functioning mechanisms of the nanostructured device

(4) Exploring a wide application space ranging from energy-efficient water purification and gas separation, through biomedical engineering, to clean-energy production.

For each of these areas, we combine simulation and experimental study and follow these with a suite of characterization methods to elucidate the fundamental structure-property relationships. These relationships are central to defining the performance of nanoengineered membranes as well as to designing novel membrane materials with high performance in the applications of interest.
